The BATS Volleyball Squad set up by Dartford hitter Alan Batmaz, train every Tuesday Night at Hurstmere School in Sidcup between 7-9pm. Alan, assisted by two other Dartford players Chris Dixon and Richard King, develop basic ball skills and set up volleyball drills with players aged 7 - 60 in preparation for their first competitive season in the Kent 1st Division (2003/04).
The Association received £5000 in November 2002 from www.awardsforall.org.uk to develop personal and team working skills as well as confidence building within the community. This funding has paid for volleyball equipment, hall hire; travel, accredited coaching and insurance.
Listen out for the hooters, shakers and maracas of their crazy fans (not to mention Sue's screaming) to hear how well they are doing!!!

Simplified Volleyball Rules - Now there is no excuse..."GET PLAYING"!!!
Its simple, there are...
Of the 6 players 3 are to the front and 3 to the back, with the back player at the top left hand side of the "defence zone" (see green court diagram below) being the server.

The English Volleyball Association’s (EVA) Volley Sport Cards are the EVA’s version of the TOP SPORT programme and are a key element of the National Youth Volleyball Programme. This resource is perfect for beginners of all ages.
Volley Sport comprises of a set of cards, which will help teachers and coaches introduce the sport of volleyball to young players. The cards have been designed to help teachers satisfy the requirements of the National Curriculum at KS1, KS2 and some elements of KS3.
The EVA believe that the Volley Sport Cards are not a stand alone resource and recommend the KS2 training module in addition to purchasing a set of cards. The provision of the four-hour training course, which provides an opportunity for teachers and coaches to become familiar with the resource and to explore a variety of ways of using the cards will be organised by the EVA. Details of future courses and costs are available from the National Office.
To order your set of cards please visit: www.volleyballengland.org/content/VolleySport.htm
If you would like your work within Youth and Community Volleyball mentioned here or any stories of good practice, great results, info on your school team etc, please e-mail them to Chris Dixon at info@dartfordvolleyballclub.co.uk and lets get into the habit of sharing news and ideas...
Willesden Volleyball Club takes Youth Development very seriously. There are opportunities within the club for players of any age to play recreationally and seriously. Currently their youngest player is 3 and the oldest is over 50. Willesden is one of the few Volleyball Clubs in the country with a paid Development Officer. Pierre is the only paid employee of the club. His main responsibilities are for Youth and Club Development and so he spends a lot of his time working directly in schools. Willesden Volleyball Club can provide coaching for any school at £18/hour. Any schools that are interested should contact Pierre directly. Pierre can arrange for either female or male coaches.
The Willesden Youth team finished fifth at last summer's London Heathrow Youth Games, and in the past has supplied players for the National Championship winning London Squad. Indeed it was one of the young Willesden stars who captained the 1999 team and lifted the trophy for the second time.
After last year's Brent Volleyball Challenge, which included Primary Schools for the first time, the club is looking to build on the talent displayed and work with new crop of potential players, during the new Sunday session for the "Smaller People". Parents are always welcome to stay, and perhaps join in the recreational adult session immediately following.

Kent Children's University courses last for four consecutive Saturday mornings from 10am till noon. They are open to pupils in Yrs 5&6 in schools which are part of the KCU project. Family Learning Days only last for one Saturday between 10am-3pm (with an hour for lunch). They are open to any Key Stage 2 pupil (Yrs3-6) in schools which are part of the KCU project. As the name suggests, a family learning day requires a "family" to attend. Kent Children's University defines a family as one or more children accompanied by at least one adult from their family. This adult can be a parent (legal guardian), grandparent or aunt/uncle.
Nick Pain, Stuart Duffin and Chris Dixon are registered tutors for the University specialising in Volleyball.
